Daniel Vettori Takes Strong Stance on Virat Kohli’s Strike-Rate Amid Anchor Role Debate

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) currently holds the third position in the leaderboard, having secured five victories from eight games. Out of these wins, four have been achieved while batting first.

Following a 35-run loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their recent encounter, SRH’s coach, Vettori, expressed the need for them to also focus on their performance in chasing targets. RCB had posted a challenging score of 206 for 7 and successfully restricted SRH to 171 for 8.

Despite SRH’s ability to breach the 250-run mark thrice this season, an uncharacteristic failure of the top and middle order hindered their pursuit of the target. Vettori acknowledged the disappointment, citing the team’s recent strong performances and the missed opportunity due to the early wickets.

Vettori emphasized the absence of easy games in the IPL, reflecting on the unpredictable nature of the tournament. He also noted the importance of the playing surface and the challenges of maintaining an anchor role while chasing a high total, underscoring the need for aggression.

On the other hand, RCB all-rounder Swapnil Singh expressed relief after his team ended a six-match losing streak. He emphasized the significance of the victory and the change in the team’s momentum, despite acknowledging the long road ahead.

Swapnil highlighted their strategy of focusing on spin and slower bowling to counter the aggressive batting line-up of SRH. He also mentioned the assessment of the wicket conditions, indicating their confidence in defending their total.
