Lok Sabha Elections 2024: BJP Tejasvi Surya vs Congress Sowmya Reddy in Bengaluru South_DISCONNECTED Prestige Battle admin, April 26, 2024 In the upcoming election in Bengaluru South, the BJP’s Tejasvi Surya will be facing off against Congress’ Sowmya Reddy. The constituency comprises eight Assembly segments, and has been a stronghold for the BJP since 1991, with the Congress only winning once in 1989. This time, Mr Surya, aged 33, is being challenged by Ms Reddy, who is hoping to secure significant support from specific segments. Mr Surya, on the other hand, is relying on support from other segments, particularly those where his uncle and Ms Reddy’s father have strong influence. Tejasvi Surya was chosen by the BJP to represent the Bengaluru South constituency in 2019, following the passing of the party’s long-time MP Ananth Kumar. Known for its mix of swanky buildings and IT parks alongside slum populations, the constituency is home to a diverse voter base consisting of various communities. Ms Reddy, the daughter of the state transport minister, is highlighting the government’s initiatives, particularly the ‘Shakti’ guarantee that allows women to travel for free on non-luxury government buses. The Congress is focusing on its five guarantees to gain momentum against the BJP in the upcoming election. The Bengaluru South Lok Sabha seat is of significant prestige, and in the second phase of the ongoing elections, it will be among the 14 constituencies in Karnataka that will go to polls on April 26th.
