Congress Workers Upset as Indore Candidate Akshay Kanti Bam Joins BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Today, Mr. Bam withdrew his nomination papers and joined the BJP. Reports suggest that party workers of the Congress are upset as the leadership did not consider their request not to field someone “unreliable” like Mr. Bam. A Congress worker expressed his disappointment to reporters, stating that he had warned senior leaders of the party that Mr. Bam would withdraw his candidature under pressure from the BJP.

He emphasized the need to give tickets to loyal party workers and expressed concern about candidates with monetary influence. Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya later welcomed Mr. Bam to the BJP, and former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan commented on the Congress’s situation, highlighting the lack of faith in the party. He mentioned that a Congress candidate from Indore Lok Sabha had also joined the BJP.

The Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh are being conducted in four phases, with votes to be counted on June 4. The state has a total of 29 Lok Sabha constituencies, with 10 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The elections for the Indore Lok Sabha constituency are scheduled for the fourth phase on May 13, along with seven other parliamentary seats in the state.

This makes Madhya Pradesh the sixth-largest state in terms of parliamentary representation, with 19 unreserved seats.
