14 Patanjali Products’ Licenses Revoked by Uttarakhand Authority admin, April 29, 2024 The Uttarakhand government has taken legal action against Divya Pharmacy and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. for repeated violations of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. The State Licencing Authority issued an order suspending manufacturing licenses for 14 of their products under Rule 159(1) of The Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945. The District Ayurvedic and Unani Officer filed a criminal complaint against them, and the Indian Medical Association has also sought action against them for violating the law. The affidavit filed by the State Licensing Authority stated that strict disciplinary and legal action, including fines, imprisonment, or both, will be taken for publishing advertisements contrary to the law. The authority granted permission for filing a complaint against the companies for their violations. The companies had earlier made an undertaking before the Supreme Court regarding the advertising of their products. The Supreme Court had ordered the officials to explain their inaction in addressing the violations. The State Licencing Authority reaffirmed that it will continue to take all due and further steps against the companies as per the prescribed procedure and the directions issued by the Supreme Court. The companies are facing legal consequences for claims made in their advertisements about the medicinal efficacy of their products.
