2024 Lok Sabha Election: Smriti Irani on Congress’s Amethi Candidate: “Couldn’t Care Less

In a recent interview, Smriti Irani, who filed her nomination to defend the VIP constituency of Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha Election 2024, confidently stated that whoever the Congress fields in Amethi will be defeated. She emphasized that the leadership of the Congress is aware of the daunting challenge in Amethi, and their hesitation to announce a candidate reflects their lack of confidence in winning the seat. Speculation has been rife about the Congress candidates for Amethi and Raebareli, particularly after Sonia Gandhi vacated her seat in Raebareli and moved to the Rajya Sabha.

There is an anticipation within the Congress rank and file that Rahul Gandhi may attempt to win back Amethi, while his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra may take over her mother’s seat in Raebareli. Some also expect the party to consider switching the constituencies. When asked whom she would prefer as an opponent between Rahul Gandhi and his sister, Smriti Irani expressed indifference, asserting that whoever comes forward will be defeated.

She highlighted their absenteeism from the area, particularly pointing out Rahul Gandhi’s long absence as an MP. Smriti Irani also discussed the challenges faced by the constituency during the pandemic, criticizing the Gandhis for their absence and emphasizing the role of Prime Minister Modi in ensuring free ration and vaccine availability for the citizens. She emphasized the understanding among the people that the Prime Minister’s initiatives were crucial in alleviating the difficulties faced during the pandemic.
