Actress Kavita Chaudhary, Famous for “Lalitaji” and TV show Udaan, Passes Away at 67

Kavita Chaudhary, the actor known for her role as Lalita ji in the Surf detergent commercials and for her portrayal of IPS officer Kalyani Singh in the TV show Udaan, has passed away at the age of 67 in Amritsar. She had been admitted to the hospital a few days ago due to low blood pressure and passed away following a cardiac arrest. She is survived by her nephew, Ajay Sayal, and her niece.

Her last rites were held on Thursday morning. Udaan, a show about women empowerment that ran on Doordarshan from 1989 to 1991, was inspired by the life of Kavita Chaudhary’s elder sister, Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, who was an IPS officer. Kavita Chaudhary not only starred in the show but also wrote and directed it.

The show, which also featured Shekhar Kapur, was acclaimed for inspiring women to pursue public service and was re-run on Doordarshan during the pandemic. Actor Amit Behl paid his condolences on Chaudhary’s demise and remembered her for her achievements. Chaudhary also produced Doordarshan shows such as *Your Honour* and *IPS Diaries*.
