Kota Official’s Message to Students and Parents Amid Spike in Suicides: “I Failed Pre-Meds

The letters from Mr. Goswami came in response to the increasing number of suicides, with two incidents occurring within three days. He emphasized that failure is an opportunity to learn and grow, urging parents to support their children in overcoming their mistakes and not to tie their happiness solely to exam grades.

Addressing the students, Mr. Goswami quoted a motivational couplet from Urdu poet Sahir Ludhianvi, stressing that failures provide the chance to overcome mistakes and achieve success. He highlighted that exams are just a phase in life and not the ultimate goal, drawing from his personal experience of failing the PMT exam.

He encouraged the students to persevere and emphasized that success is determined by hard work and the guidance of a higher power. In a separate letter to the parents, Mr. Goswami acknowledged their dedication to providing for their children and their desire for their happiness.

However, he cautioned against associating the children’s happiness solely with their exam marks, emphasizing that success is not solely determined by passing exams. He shared his own experience of failure and urged the parents to give their children the opportunity to improve themselves, just as his parents had supported him after his own setback.

Mr. Goswami appealed to parents to communicate regularly with their children, listen to them, and make them feel valued and cherished. He emphasized that success can be found in various fields and that parents should encourage their wards to seek out their own paths to achieve their goals.
