BCCI excludes Rinku Singh from T20 World Cup Top-15; Sunil Gavaskar comments on his performance.

The four spinners surprised Finch during an interview on Star Sports. He had expected only two spinners and was particularly surprised by the inclusion of Rinku Singh.

Finch expressed his surprise at Rinku’s selection given his high T20I average, implying that Rinku deserved a place in the squad. However, Gavaskar suggested that Rinku’s form in the ongoing IPL may have impacted his selection, indicating that his performance in the current IPL season might not have been up to the mark, leading to his exclusion from the main squad.

Gavaskar also mentioned that the Indian team looks strong and balanced, with a good mix of experience, big hitters, and variety in bowling. He highlighted the potential benefits of having four spin bowlers given the pitch conditions in the West Indies, where spinners are expected to have more assistance than quick bowlers.

He attributed this strategy to the success of slower deliveries in the IPL and its impact on the batsmen. Shubman Gill’s “patchy” performance in the IPL was also discussed, with Gavaskar suggesting that Gill’s inconsistency in scoring runs may have influenced the selectors to consider him only as a reserve player.

Gavaskar acknowledged India’s abundance of talented players, expressing confidence in their ability to field a strong second team capable of winning the tournament. Gavaskar emphasized the need for a change in attitude and approach in the Indian team, believing that it could make a difference in the T20 World Cup.

He suggested that such a shift in mindset could enable the Rohit-led team to achieve success in the tournament, contrasting with their previous lackluster performances in the T20 World Cup.
