Salman Khurshid and his Niece Face Legal Action Over “Vote Jihad” Remark.

The video of Maria Alam’s statement has gone viral on social media. She was seeking votes for INDIA bloc candidate Naval Kishore Shakya on Monday, and made an appeal for “vote jihad”, stating it as necessary in the current situation for the minority community to drive away the BJP government. Taking note of Alam’s remarks, a case was registered against her for violating the provisions of the IPC and Representation of People Act, following a complaint filed by the Flying Squad and Surveillance Team.

A case was also registered against Khurshid, the chief guest at the election meeting in Kaimganj. The SHO of Kaimganj police station, Ramautar, stated that the case was registered based on complaints by the Flying Squad and Surveillance Team, under sections 188, 295A of the IPC, and section 125 of the Representation of People Act. Alam emphasized the need for “vote jihad” and the importance of voting intelligently without being influenced by anyone.

She stressed the threat to humanity and urged people to vote wisely to protect the country, its beauty, and its composite culture. Alam’s statement has also gone viral on social media. Asked to comment on his niece’s statement, Khurshid explained that Alam’s intention must have been to carry out “vote jihad” to protect the Constitution.
