Congress Says Decision On Amethi, Raebareli In 24 Hours: Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Assert “Nobody Is Scared admin, May 1, 2024 Jairam Ramesh announced that the Congress party’s Central Election Committee has given Congress President Mallikalrujun Kharge the authority to make a decision, which will be unveiled within 24 hours, regarding the nomination of candidates for the Amethi and Raebareli constituencies in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party has created suspense by not announcing candidates for Amethi and Raebareli in the latest list of names for the polls released on Tuesday. This delay has led to protests by Congress workers in Amethi. Demonstrators outside the party office chanted slogans demanding the nomination of candidates from the Gandhi family for these constituencies. The speculation is that Rahul Gandhi, who lost the Amethi seat to Smriti Irani in the previous elections, might be fielded from there as well as from Kerala’s Wayanad. Similarly, the name of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been circulating for the Raebareli constituency, currently held by Sonia Gandhi. The decision on these nominations will be made by the Central Election Committee. The Congress leader Rajeev Shukla expressed that the decision on the Gandhi family’s candidature will be left to the Central Election Committee. The elections for both of these seats are scheduled for May 20, during the fifth phase of voting. The Congress is set to contest 17 out of Uttar Pradesh’s 80 Lok Sabha seats, with the remaining 63 seats going to the INDIA bloc ally Samajwadi Party and other regional outfits. Meanwhile, Union Minister Smriti Irani has filed her nomination from Amethi for a second consecutive term, expressing confidence in her re-election. When asked about her preference between Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as an opponent, she stated that she is not concerned, as she believes that whoever contests against her will lose.
