KCR prohibited from campaigning due to “derogatory” comments about Congress admin, May 1, 2024 The Congress had complained to the Election Commission regarding certain “objectionable” remarks made by KCR. The commission subsequently enforced a 48-hour ban on KCR, beginning at 8 pm the same day. The ban prohibits the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president from participating in public meetings, processions, rallies, shows, interviews, and making public statements in the media related to the ongoing election. The Election Commission issued the ban while “strongly condemning” KCR’s alleged statements. The complaint from the Congress was filed on April 6, following KCR’s remarks at a press meet in Sircilla town, Telangana. The Election Commission had previously issued a show-cause notice to KCR in response to the alleged remarks. On April 23, KCR denied the charge, expressing that the intended meaning of his original statement was lost in translation. He claimed that the sentences from his press conference were taken out of context and mistranslated in English. KCR asserted that his criticism was directed towards the policies and programs of the Congress and denied making personal attacks on any Congress leader. However, after reviewing the Congress’ complaint and KCR’s response, the Election Commission concluded that the BRS chief had violated the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct. Sircilla
