BJP’s Brij Bhushan, Accused Of Sexual Harassment By Wrestlers, May Not Contest Polls: Sources

Sources within the BJP have informed NDTV that the former national wrestling chief may not receive a ticket this time from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh, a seat he has held for three consecutive terms. The party leadership has reportedly discussed the matter with the BJP leader and is considering fielding his son, Karan Bhushan Singh, from Kaiserganj.

It is understood that the prominent politician is still pushing for a nomination, while his elder son, Pratik Bhushan Singh, is currently serving as an MLA. Karan Bhushan Singh is presently the head of the Uttar Pradesh wrestling body.

The constituency of Kaiserganj is scheduled to vote on May 20 during the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election. With the last date for filing nominations approaching tomorrow, the BJP is anticipated to announce its candidate today.

This announcement is expected to put an end to the speculation surrounding the party’s choice for the seat. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has served as the president of the Wrestling Federation of India for more than a decade, gained attention early last year when some of the nation’s top wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshee Malikkh, accused him of sexually harassing female wrestlers and organized a large protest in the national capital.

The BJP heavyweight has refuted these allegations, and the case remains pending before a Delhi court. In a statement made last month, the BJP leader attributed the delay in announcing the party’s candidate for Kaiserganj to the media, stating, “You (media) people need not worry.

The announcement of my candidature is getting delayed because of you people.”
