Prajwal Revanna’s Request for Time to Join Sex Harassment Probe Rejected by Cops

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has stated that Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, must appear before the Special Investigation Team probing allegations of sexual harassment. The SIT had declined Revanna’s request for a seven-day delay and indicated the possibility of his arrest if he does not comply. The accusation involves a woman who worked as a cook at the Revannas’ home and also implicates HD Revanna, the JDS MP. The woman has alleged that her daughter was harassed by Prajwal Revanna over video calls and explicit visuals purportedly involving him have circulated on the internet.

Prajwal Revanna’s lawyer, Arun G, had sought seven days to address the various dimensions of the case, while Prajwal has claimed that the videos are not genuine. In response to the investigation, Prajwal Revanna communicated through his advocate that he is not in Bangalore to attend the inquiry, and has asserted that the truth will emerge soon. These allegations have sparked a political dispute in the midst of the election season, with the JDS having allied with the BJP. The Congress has launched a vigorous attack against the BJP in light of the allegations against Prajwal Revanna, with Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and questioning his silence.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has countered the accusations by stating that the BJP does not tolerate those who commit atrocities against women and questioning why the Congress government in Karnataka did not take action against Revanna earlier. The JDS, a prominent Vokkaliga community, wields considerable influence in south Karnataka, particularly in the fourteen Lok Sabha seats where Vokkaliga voters are pivotal.
