Rahul Gandhi on His Nomination from Raebareli: “Mother Entrusted Me… admin, May 3, 2024 The Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, has expressed his emotional connection to Raebareli, referring to it as the “karmabhoomi” of his family. He recently filed his nomination papers from Sonia Gandhi’s former constituency, which has been held by the Gandhi family since 2004. Rahul Gandhi’s emotional attachment to the area comes from the fact that his grandmother, Indira Gandhi, and grandfather, Feroze Gandhi, had also represented Raebareli in the Lok Sabha. Accompanied by Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, her husband Robert Vadra, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers for both Raebareli and the Wayanad seat. In a social media post, he emphasized that both Raebareli and Amethi, his former constituency, are equally significant to him, and he does not see a distinction between them. Rahul Gandhi also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve Raebareli and sought the love and blessings of his supporters in his fight for justice against injustice. The BJP has accused him of avoiding a direct contest with Union Minister Smriti Irani, who defeated him in the 2019 elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taunted Rahul Gandhi for “running away” from the Amethi contest. Smriti Irani has also commented on Rahul Gandhi’s decision not to contest from Amethi, stating that it indicates the Congress party’s acceptance of defeat in the region. She implied that Rahul Gandhi’s choice to contest from Wayanad and not from Amethi suggests that he will never fully belong to Raebareli. The upcoming polling in Amethi and Raebareli is scheduled for May 20th, during the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Rahul Gandhi
