NDTV Records Stone Attack on Dilip Ghosh’s Convoy During 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Bengal.

The voting process in the Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha constituency was marred by incidents of violence and clashes between workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP. Alleged EVM malfunctions and reported instances of agents being stopped from entering polling booths resulted in 1,088 complaints filed by different political parties. These disturbances culminated in a clash between BJP candidate Dilip Ghosh and Trinamool supporters at Kalna Gate, where stones were thrown at Ghosh’s convoy, leading to injuries and damage to vehicles. Despite the earlier display of camaraderie between Ghosh and his main opponent, Trinamool’s Kirti Azad, with the two leaders hugging at a poll booth, tensions escalated throughout the day.

Ghosh accused the Trinamool of preventing polling agents from entering booths, while Trinamool accused Ghosh of attempting to disrupt the election process due to a perceived fear of defeat. Clashes between supporters of the two parties were reported in Birbhum and Krishnanagar constituencies. In Krishnanagar, BJP candidate Amrita Roy was seen accompanying injured supporters to the police station, while in Birbhum, Trinamool workers held protests, alleging that central forces were intimidating voters. Additionally, a CPM worker was injured in a scuffle with Trinamool supporters over their presence in a polling booth in the Tehatta area of the constituency.

These incidents reflect a broader pattern of violence and tension in various areas during the election process.
