Shabana Azmi has responded to the incident involving Kangana Ranaut being slapped by a Central Industrial Security Force constable at Chandigarh airport. Azmi stated that security personnel should not take the law into their own hands, emphasizing the need for safety for everyone, regardless of personal opinions.

Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut, who recently won the Lok Sabha election from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, was involved in the incident while preparing to board a flight to Delhi. While the viral video footage did not clearly show Ms. Ranaut being slapped, she later explained that the woman guard had verbally abused her and struck her at the security check-in.

Ms. Ranaut also expressed concern about the rising terrorism in Punjab. The constable who slapped Ms. Ranaut, Kulwinder Kaur, explained her actions by stating that she felt Ms. Ranaut had disrespected farmers with her previous comments.

Kaur has since been suspended and an FIR has been filed in response to the incident. In December 2020, Kangana Ranaut had made a controversial statement about farmers, referring to them as being available for hire for Rs 100.

This statement led to the recent confrontation and subsequent fallout at the airport. The incident has sparked a public debate, with Shabana Azmi cautioning against celebrating the altercation and emphasizing the importance of law enforcement agents upholding the law without bias.
