Indresh Kumar’s U-Turn on “Stopped At 240” Dig At BJP Causes Controversy

The RSS has denied any rift with the BJP. Mr. Kumar sparked a controversy by stating that the BJP was restricted to 240 seats in the recent Lok Sabha polls due to its “arrogance.” He made these remarks at an event near Jaipur, saying, “The party which did bhakti of Lord Ram and became arrogant was stopped at 240; however, it became the biggest party.”

He also mentioned that those who had no faith in Ram were stopped at 234, referring to the INDIA bloc. Mr. Kumar’s remarks led to a reaction, and the RSS leader made an attempt to clarify the situation by emphasizing the mood of the country and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr. Kumar’s statements are in line with those of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, who recently mentioned that “true sevak is never arrogant.”

The RSS sought to dispel claims of a rift with the BJP, emphasizing that Mr. Bhagwat’s references related to the Lok Sabha polls were not aimed at the ruling party and were being misinterpreted to create confusion. They clarified that his ‘arrogance’ remark was never directed at PM Modi or any BJP leader. During his speech, Mr. Bhagwat expressed concerns over the situation in Manipur, criticized the discourse during polls, and called for moving on from unnecessary discussions about elections.

Opposition leaders seized on his remarks to criticize the BJP and PM Modi, prompting a response from the RSS, which deemed these claims as political tactics meant to spread confusion.
