CBI Interviews NEET Candidates and School Owner in Godhara, Gujarat admin, June 27, 2024 – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating a case of alleged malpractices in the NEET-UG exam. The investigation is centered around three candidates, their parents, and Dixit Patel, the owner of a local school where the exam was held. – A team from the CBI has been present in Gujarat for four days to conduct the investigation, with a focus on alleged malpractices during the NEET exam held on May 5. – Two private schools in Gujarat’s Kheda and Panchmahal districts were visited by the CBI as part of the probe, both owned by Dixit Patel. – The Godhra Police in Gujarat had previously registered a case against three individuals for attempting to assist 27 candidates in clearing the NEET-UG by charging them Rs. 10 lakh each. – The CBI has filed a new FIR against unidentified individuals under various IPC sections, in response to countrywide protests and litigation by students regarding claims of paper leaks. – The CBI has taken over the investigation of five new cases related to alleged malpractices in the NEET-UG exam being investigated by police in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Bihar. – The investigation began after a tip-off was received by the Panchmahal district collector, leading to the arrest of five individuals, including a school principal and a teacher. – The accused individuals were found to have devised a plan to help certain candidates clear the exam in exchange for money, involving a physics teacher, an education consultant, and a middleman. – The modus operandi involved the candidates answering only some questions and leaving the rest blank, with the intention that the remaining answers would be filled in after the exam. – It was reported that out of 27 students involved in the malpractice, only three were able to clear the exam. – The NEET-UG exam in 2024 saw over 24 lakh students appearing across 571 cities, with the results released on June 4.
