Delhi Airport: Indigo, Spicejet Cancel Flights Due to Roof Collapse at Terminal 1

After the incident, airlines issued a press statement informing passengers that, because of the structural damage to Terminal 1 and adverse weather conditions, several flights had been cancelled and advised passengers to keep track of and confirm their flight status. IndiGo explained that the operations had been impacted due to the damage to Terminal 1, leading to flight cancellations.

Passengers already inside the terminal would be able to board their planned flights, but those with flights later in the day would be offered alternatives. They advised customers to keep track of their flight status and provided contact numbers for assistance.

SpiceJet also cited bad weather as the reason for the cancelled flights and announced the partial closure of Terminal 1 until further notice. They apologized for the inconvenience and provided contact information for alternative options or full refund.

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) spokesperson reported that a portion of the canopy at the old departure forecourt of Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 collapsed due to heavy rain, causing injuries. As a result, all departures from Terminal 1 were temporarily suspended, and check-in counters were closed for safety reasons.

DIAL expressed regret for the disruption and extended apologies for any inconvenience caused. Delhi Police informed that traffic going to T1 departure from Indira Gandhi International Airport had been diverted due to the incident.
