In the video, locals were seen wading through the flooded road with sticks, attempting to measure the water’s depth and avoid any open sewers. The Thiruvananthapuram MP described the situation, stating that his entire home was under a foot of water when he woke up. He mentioned that stormwater drains in the neighborhood were clogged, causing the flooding. He also noted that electricity had been switched off at 6 am to prevent electrocution. Despite the challenges, the city managed to pump water out of the roads, allowing him to arrive at Parliament in time. Within an hour, Mr. Tharoor praised the “courteous and responsive” Delhi Lt Governor for his quick action and understanding of the challenges faced by the city. He also acknowledged the constraints on effective action arising from the division of responsibilities between Union and State Governments. Delhi received nearly 230 mm of rainfall, the highest 24-hour rainfall in June since 1936, leading to a standstill in several parts of the national capital region. The heavy downpour caused flooded roads, traffic congestion, and a portion of the departure complex of Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 to collapse, resulting in casualties. The Indian Meteorological Department announced that the monsoon is set to arrive in Delhi by the end of the week. Last year, the monsoon hit Delhi on June 26. Delhi
