Parliament Resumes with NEET Row Taking Centre Stage: 10 Key Points

Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned on Friday till Monday, leading to a deadlock. The Opposition, led by Rahul Gandhi, insisted that the NEET issue warranted immediate discussion. However, Speaker Om Birla informed them that they could raise all matters in the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address, but could not allow any other issue to be raised during the debate. The NEET-UG examination conducted by the National Testing Agency faced allegations of question paper leaks, leading to widespread protests in various states.

The CBI has made arrests in the investigation into the alleged malpractices in conducting the exam. When the Lok Sabha resumes, the debate on the Motion of Thanks will commence. The debate is scheduled to last 16 hours with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reply on Tuesday. Opposition MPs are expected to persist with their demands for a discussion on the NEET controversy, inflation, and unemployment.

In the Rajya Sabha, protests erupted during the session with Opposition members demanding a debate on the NEET issue. The session saw Congress MP Phulo Devi Netam faint due to high blood pressure, necessitating her transfer to a hospital. Despite interruptions, the Rajya Sabha allocated 21 hours for the debate on the Motion of Thanks, with Prime Minister Modi expected to respond on Wednesday. Rahul Gandhi assured in a social media post that he would raise the voice of the people and their problems with full force in Parliament.
