Guru Linked to ‘Satsang’ Where 87 Died in Hathras Stampede Alleges Connection to Intelligence Bureau

Narayan Hari usually prefers a suit and tie to saffron clothes. He was born in Bahadur Nagari village in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district and completed his initial studies there. After college, he claims to have begun working for the Intelligence Bureau and turned towards spirituality during his time there.

One distinguishing feature of Narayan Hari as a guru is his preference for a white suit and tie or a kurta-pyjama as his attire. During his sermons, he claims not to keep any amount from the donations given to him and spends it all on his devotees. He calls himself a disciple of Hari and has a sizeable following in western Uttar Pradesh.

However, at least 87 people were killed during a stampede at the ‘satsang’ organized in his honor in Hathras district’s Phulrai village. Police stated that the place where the event was held was too small to accommodate the gathered crowd. As a result, a committee has been formed to investigate the incident, and a case will be filed against the organizers.
