Javed Akhtar Discusses Mandate for Restaurants to Display Owners’ Names Along Kanwar Yatra Route

Javed Akhtar recently commented on the controversy surrounding eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route. The dispute began when eateries in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh were asked to display the names of their owners.

In response, the Muzaffarnagar Police clarified that they had requested all eateries to voluntarily display the names of their owners and employees, emphasizing that the intention behind the order was not to promote religious discrimination but to assist the devotees. During the Shravan Kanwar Yatra, a significant number of Kanwariyas travel through Muzaffarnagar district to collect water from Haridwar.

As a result, many people, especially Kanwariyas, refrain from consuming certain food items. The police stated that the order aimed to facilitate the passing devotees, address allegations, and maintain law and order.

Refuting the discriminatory allegations, the police emphasized that this system had been in place in the past and was intended to ensure the welfare of the Kanwariyas and prevent confusion that could lead to law and order issues. The controversy sparked a comparison with historical instances of discrimination, with Mr. Owaisi drawing parallels to Apartheid in South Africa and the ‘Judenboycott’ in Hitler’s Germany.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the arrangements for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra and provided the essential directives. The meeting included discussions with various ministers, and preparations were underway to ensure the smooth conduct of the yatra, which is scheduled to commence on July 22.
