Kangana Ranaut’s Mandi Election Challenged, High Court Issues Notice admin, July 24, 2024 Justice Jyotsna Rewal issued a notice directing Ms Ranaut to file a reply by August 21st. Ms Ranaut emerged victorious in the Mandi Lok Sabha seat, defeating her Congress rival Vikramaditya Singh by a margin of 74,755 votes. She secured 5,37,002 votes against Singh’s 4,62,267. Layak Ram Negi, the petitioner, pleaded for the annulment of Ms Ranaut’s election, claiming that his nomination papers were wrongly turned down by the returning officer and also made him a party in the case. Negi, a former employee of the forest department, stated that his retirement was premature and provided a “no dues certificate” from the department along with his nomination papers. He was given one day to produce the “no due certificate” from the electricity, water, and telephone departments. When he submitted them, the returning officer did not accept them and rejected the nomination papers. Negi argued that had his papers been accepted, he could have won the election and requested to set aside the election.
