C P Radhakrishnan Takes Oath as Governor of Maharashtra admin, July 31, 2024 On February 18, 2023, C P Radhakrishnan was appointed as the governor of Jharkhand. He took the oath of office and secrecy administered by the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya. Radhakrishnan, the 21st governor of Maharashtra since its formation in 1960, succeeded Ramesh Bais. The function at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan was attended by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, other ministers, and senior officials. The Indian Navy accorded a ceremonial guard of honor to the new governor, who had previously served as governor of Jharkhand for almost one and a half years. Additionally, Radhakrishnan had held additional charge as governor of Telangana and lieutenant governor of Puducherry for brief periods. Born on May 4, 1957 in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. His political journey began as an RSS worker, leading to his appointment as the secretary of the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP in 1996. Radhakrishnan was elected to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore in 1998 and 1999, serving as chairman of the parliamentary standing committee for textiles and a member of various other parliamentary committees. Over the years, Radhakrishnan held several significant roles, including serving as the chairman of the Coir Board in Kochi from 2016 to 2020 and as the BJP’s all India in-charge for Kerala from 2020 to 2022. He is widely respected in Tamil Nadu politics because of his over four decades of experience. At present, in addition to his new role as governor of Jharkhand, Radhakrishnan also holds the additional charge as the governor of Telangana and lieutenant governor of Puducherry.
