Rahul Gandhi Mended Shoes Offered 10 Lakh, But Refused to Sell: Uttar Pradesh Cobbler

The cobbler, named Mr. Ram Chet, received a visit from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. During the visit, Mr. Gandhi inquired about the cobbler’s trade and even attempted to mend shoes himself.

A video of him stitching a sandal quickly went viral. The following day, the Congress leader gifted a sewing machine to Mr. Ram Chet, which would facilitate his shoe stitching work and make it easier.

The cobbler expressed that his life has been transformed by Mr. Gandhi’s visit, noting that people now show him respect and even offer significant sums of money for the footwear stitched by Mr. Gandhi. Furthermore, Mr. Ram Chet mentioned that the offers for the shoes had escalated, with one bidder proposing Rs 10 lakh.

He humorously remarked that Rahul Gandhi is his partner and he would pay him the price for the sandals. recounting his interaction with the Congress leader, Mr. Ram Chet mentioned that Mr. Gandhi had inquired about his work and even observed him pasting shoes.

Living in a temporary dwelling without electricity, Mr. Ram Chet has gained attention from local officials after his photo with Mr. Gandhi circulated on social media. Additionally, concerns arose about how the cobbler would operate the sewing machine without lighting, to which he responded that he would utilize his son’s house which has electricity.

Regarding his son Raghuram, he expressed delight in meeting the Congress leader and explained his shift from being a cobbler to working as a laborer due to lack of respect in the former profession.
