On another occasion, a group of former students of Rabindra Bharati University was protesting against the same rape and murder incident when a motorcycle-borne civic volunteer allegedly hit one of them on BT Road in the northern outskirts of Kolkata. The protesters surrounded him and demanded justice. Although the civic volunteer initially tried to argue with the protesters, he later apologized to them, as seen in the viral video. However, the protesters refused to let him go. The traffic sergeant then intervened, but the protesters engaged in a verbal altercation with him. Subsequently, the students blocked the busy BT Road and continued protesting until about 9.30 A.M. on Saturday, withdrawing only after learning that the accused civic volunteer had been arrested.
