Kolkata Doctor’s Family Responds to Mamata Banerjee’s ‘Return To Pujo’ Remark After Rape and Murder at RG Kar Medical College

The Trinamool Congress chief addressed the media yesterday, expressing her desire for people to return to celebrating the upcoming Pujo and urging the CBI to expedite the delivery of justice. She acknowledged the ongoing protests for justice, noting that they have been disruptive to local communities, particularly for the elderly residents. She stressed the need to adhere to pollution control norms, especially regarding the use of microphones after 10 pm.

The chief minister emphasized that the investigation is now in the hands of the CBI and called for justice to be served swiftly through a fast-track court. She also expressed concern over the tarnishing of Bengal’s reputation worldwide and the negative portrayal of the state through social media platforms. Her remarks drew criticism from the victim’s parents, who felt that her comments were insensitive and failed to address their loss.

Opposition parties, including the BJP and CPM, condemned the chief minister’s statements. They accused her of being out of touch with the sentiments of the people and of attempting to manipulate the public’s response to the situation. The BJP’s Leader of the Opposition in Bengal Assembly called for patience and invoked the power of the Mother to bring about change, while a senior CPM leader expressed skepticism about the chief minister’s intentions.
