Indian-Origin Man Buta Singh Gill Among 2 Killed In Edmonton, Canada Shooting

The family of one of the victims, Buta Singh Gill, has identified him as the owner of Edmonton-based Gill Built Homes. The Edmonton police released a statement indicating that Southwest Branch patrol officers had responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Cavanagh Boulevard Southwest and Cherniak Way Southwest.

At the scene, they found three injured males: two were deceased (49 years old and 57 years old), and a 51-year-old male was seriously injured. The surviving male was taken to the hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

The Edmonton Police Service mentioned in the press release that they are investigating the deaths of the two men and have taken over the case. Additionally, the police stated that autopsies have been scheduled for the deceased individuals.

CTV News Edmonton reported that the family of Buta Singh Gill and many members of the South Asian home-building community gathered at the site of the incident. The Edmonton Police Service also requested citizens to avoid the area of Cavanagh Blvd SW and 30 Avenue SW during the investigation.

Former EPS member Mohinder Banga expressed his shock at the incident, recalling Gill as a kind and helpful person. A witness named Lindsay Hilton described the event, stating that she saw a man in construction attire walking down the boulevard and witnessed the shooting from her car.
