The woman, who had a job in Bengaluru, returned to Lucknow on April 3 and the incident occurred on April 7 when she left her residence in Mahanagar to catch a train back to Bengaluru. The accused, identified as Vivek Maurya, 28, from Barabanki, was arrested and was a friend of the victim. The investigation revealed that the initial charge of murder under IPC Section 302 was later converted to culpable homicide not amounting to murder under IPC Section 304. Following a cocktail overdose, the woman’s condition deteriorated, and she ultimately died, while the accused also became heavily intoxicated. He sought help by dialing UP112, leading to her being rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where she was declared dead after an ECG examination. The family of the deceased expressed concerns that the drug overdose may have been deliberate to murder her. During interrogation, the accused admitted that his “thrill-seeking experiment” had gone wrong and claimed that the woman had requested to consume the addictive drug. The police investigation revealed that the accused had a history of drug addiction and had made the woman consume drugs in the past. The accused fled from the hospital upon learning of the woman’s death, but was later arrested near the Indira Canal. The police found a syringe and a pack of the drug at the vacant plot.
