MK Stalin’s Twist On PM Modi’s ‘Modi Ki Guarantee’ in Tamil Nadu’s Lok Sabha Election 2024

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, recently criticized the frequent visits of the Prime Minister to the southern state, likening it to migratory birds flocking to a sanctuary during election season. He demanded guarantees from the Prime Minister for various issues including reservation for Scheduled Castes, Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, employment for youth, reduction of fuel prices, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations on minimum support price for farmers, and cancellation of the military’s Agnipath scheme.

Stalin also called for the repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Act and a review of the BJP’s “anti-people laws”. He emphasized that the demands in their manifesto were based on the people’s feedback from across the state.

The manifesto also promises to cut petrol and diesel prices, scrap the Uniform Civil Code, and provide 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and Assemblies. The Chief Minister’s speeches included references to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and his son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, and the controversy around ‘*Sanatana Dharma*’.

The results of the election are set to be declared on June 4. In the 2019 election, the DMK-Congress alliance emerged victorious, securing 38 out of 39 seats in the state, while the BJP failed to win a single seat.
