Indian Student in US Found Days After Disappearance

The US is a favoured destination for Indian students, with over 2.6 lakh Indian students migrating to the country in the 2022-2023 session, marking a 35 per cent increase from the previous session. However, several Indian and Indian-origin students have tragically lost their lives in the US this year.

One recent incident involved 17-year-old Ishika Thakore, who had gone missing in Frisco. The Frisco police sought public assistance to trace her, but in a positive update, the police later confirmed that she had been located.

Similarly, a 25-year-old student from Hyderabad, who was pursuing a Master’s at Cleveland State University, was found dead earlier this week. This case adds to a concerning trend of deaths involving Indian-origin students in the United States.

Another distressing case is that of Mohammed Abdul Arfath, who had been missing for nearly three weeks. The consulate had been in touch with Abdul’s family, highlighting the efforts to support and assist those affected by these tragedies.

These incidents raise concerns about the safety and well-being of Indian and Indian-origin students in the US. It is important for authorities to address these issues and for the international community to offer support and assistance in ensuring the safety of all students pursuing higher education in the US.
