Woman from the US discovered chained to a tree in a jungle in Maharashtra had visited Mumbai in June, says police. admin, July 31, 2024 The Sindhudurg police have obtained information about Lalita Kayi, a woman found chained to a tree, including the region in the US where she is from. A police official stated that various teams are currently verifying this information and that the police will reach a conclusion once it has been confirmed. The official mentioned that the police have “very strong clues” about her. According to their investigation, it was found that Kayi had come to Tamil Nadu 10 years ago to learn yoga and meditation. She married an Indian man there, lived with him for several years, and obtained an Aadhaar card. Following a falling out with her husband, Kayi spent some time in Goa and also visited Mumbai in June. The motive behind her visit to Mumbai is currently being verified, as well as the people she met and the duration of her stay in the city. A shepherd in Sonurli village, Sindhudurg district, found Kayi chained to a tree and alerted the police. She was then taken to a hospital in Goa for treatment. The police also recovered a note from her in which she stated that she had not eaten anything for the past 25 days. Superintendent of Police Saurabh Kumar Agrawal mentioned that the police have not yet recorded Kayi’s statement and that the verification of the information received so far is ongoing. Agrawal stated that the investigation is progressing in the right direction and that the police have strong clues relating to the woman. The Sindhudurg police have registered an attempt-to-murder case against her former husband based on the information mentioned in the note recovered from her possession. It is suspected that Kayi suffers from schizophrenia, and police teams have been sent to Tamil Nadu and Goa to trace her ex-husband and other relatives. *Please note that the headline is unchanged, and this story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed. * Investigation
